2nd half mistakes prove costly as Mt. Juliet ends Cougars’ season 39-10

Turnovers in the second half allowed Mt. Juliet to pull away for a 39-10 victory over Dickson County in the second round of the TSSAA playoffs Friday night. The Cougars end their season 10-2 while Mt. Juliet advances to the quarterfinals. A three-yard touchdown run by Otis Gerron gave Dickson County a 7-3 lead in the opening period and the Cougars only trailed 17-10 at the half. But a couple of mistakes in the third period led to touchdowns for the Golden Bears and DCHS was never able to recover. Mt. Juliet moves on to face Brentwood in Friday’s quarterfinals after the Bruins stopped Overton 31-14. In other playoff action, Northeast beat Centennial 49-34 and Columbia topped Tullahoma 47-21 in Class 5A, Cheatham County stopped Fairview 36-21 and Hickman County slipped past East Hickman 13-7 in Class 3A.
