Three Dickson County Cougar football players earned district awards while 10 were named first team All District 10 following this year’s 10-2 campaign. Demonta Daniel was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player, Mitch Mersman was named Most Valuable Kicker for the second time and Trevor Daniel earned Most Valuable Punter in a vote by the district coaches. The trio also was voted to the All-District 10 team along with Cougars Otis Gerron, Kasey Fuqua, Luke Humphreys, Tyler Lewis, Andy Smith, Tyler Brand and Devonte Kennedy. Isaiah Burns and Drew Reynolds were named honorable mentions for the All-District squad. With Dickson County moving to District 11-AAA in 2013, Coach Troy Williams said the football schedule will take on a new look. District opponents will now be Brentwood, Centennial, Franklin, Independence, Ravenwood and Summit, leaving the Cougars with four non-district games. Williams said on Thursday’s Cougar Report that DCHS will continue to play county rival Creek Wood and Class 5A state runner up Columbia, while adding Wilson Central to the schedule. Williams said the school is still trying to find one more game to complete the schedule.
