Dickson County High School earned its first-ever runner up finish in the Region 7-AAA wrestling tournament and sent seven Cougars on to the state tournament. Beech claimed the tournament title at Springfield Saturday with 192 points while Dickson County was second with 176. Clarksville finished third at 157, ending the Wildcats’ 19-year run as region champions. Luke Humphreys won the region title at 160 pounds, Fletcher Valentine took the title at 182 and Dakota Suillivan earned the crown in the 220-pound class. Also moving on to the state tournament are Beau Badon, who finished third at 138, Shawn Vincent who was third at 195, Hunter Smith, after finishing fourth at 132 and Macon Webster, the fourth-place winner at 170 pounds. Vincent won the consolation finals when his opponent was disqualified for an illegal throw that left the Cougar with a neck injury that forced him to be examined at a hospital Saturday. Coach Tommy Badon said he doesn’t believe the injury is serious and Vincent likely will be ready for the state tournament that begins Thursday in the Williamson County Ag Expo Center in Franklin.
