A New Year, New You, New Job

If finding a new job is one of your New Year’s Resolutions then we’ve got some tips for you from our friends at Goodwill Career Solutions.

Be aware of your appearance. Employers certainly are aware of how your dressed.

Have an updated resume. Not sure what needs to go on a resume? Goodwill has a resume class.

Know basic computer skills. Lots of businesses have applications online. You need to know how to navigate a computer in order to fill it out. Goodwill also offers classes to help with computer skills.

Be prepared for rejection.

Fill out the application correctly and completely.

Never use the word “any” on an application. It might make you look desperate.

Know your skills. Even if you think you don’t have any skills you do. You might just surprise yourself.

Have questions and don’t be afraid to ask. However, don’t ask about benefits, pay or schedule.

Realize the ball is in your court. Use the 3 day rule. Wait three days after you apply and then give them a call.

Be personable. Be yourself and don’t get nervous.

Consistency is the key. Fill more than one application out a week.

Keep the faith!! Don’t get discouraged. There is something out there for you. It’s just a matter of finding it.
