A back injury forced Dickson County High School senior Katie Story to withdraw with just two holes left in the first round of the TSSAA Class AAA state golf tournament Tuesday. In her third trip to the state tournament, the Lady Cougar was 14 over par through 16 holes at WillowBrook Golf Course in Manchester when the pain become too unbearable. Story injured her back practicing for the Region 6-AAA tournament, which she went on to win. Aubree Jones of Brighton was the leader after the first round with an even-par 72, five shots ahead of Samantah Griffith of Ooltewah. Rossview, Warren County and Science Hill were in a three-way tie for the team lead at 162. Cougar sophomore Jack Story finished his first round bogey-double bogey to card a six-over 78. Starting on the back nine in the last group, Story made the turn at two-over 38, but a 40 on the front nine put him back in the pack. Matt Johnson of Coffee County leads after the first day with a 2-under 70. The tournament concludes Wednesday.
