Cancer center, museum to host Celebration of Life on Minnie Pearl’s 100th birthday

Tristar Sarah Cannon Cancer Center and the Clement Railroad Hotel Museum are sponsoring a Celebration of Life for cancer survivors and their families in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the birth of beloved entertainer Minnie Pearl. The celebration will be 4-8 pm Thursday, Oct. 25, at the museum and Holland Park. That day marks what would have been the 100th birthday for Minnie Pearl’s creator, Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon, for whom the cancer treatment center is named. Cancer survivors and their families and supporters are invited to celebrate Cannon’s birthday at a special observance at 6 pm. Refreshments will be served in the museum and the bronze statue of Cousin Minnie will be moved to the pavilion in Holland Park so survivors can take pictures with it. The celebration includes a performance by Minnie Pearl impersonator Cindy Moore as well as musicians Jamie Teachenor and Justin Adams. For more information on the Oct. 25 Celebration of Life, call the Clement Railroad Hotel Museum at 446-0500.
