After beating Brazil by 56 points Wednesday, the USA U16 women’s team routed Argentina by 70 points Thursday and secured a number-one seed for Saturday’s championship bracket in the FIBA Americas tournament in Mexico. Dickson County’s LeaLea Carter scored 5 points and had 3 rebounds in the 98-28 thrashing of Argentina. The rising sophomore at Dickson County High School hit one of four field goal attempts and all three of her free throws during 18 minutes of action. Asia Durr of Douglasville, Georgia, led the US again with 23 points while Crystal Dangerfield from Blackman High School in Murfreesboro scored 16 as five US players hit double figures. The US wraps up group play against Costa Rica at 2:00 this afternoon and has already earned a berth in the semifinals by securing the top seed for Group A.
