Citizens of White Bluff are forming a new non-profit group that will help the town with fund-raising and organization for its community activities. Attorney and former Councilman Allen Johnson told the council Tuesday he is helping form a group that will be chartered as a 501c3 organization to accept donations and help organize the Main Street Festival, Grillin’ and Greens and “all of these events that require fund-raising and funding.” Johnson said the new group will “create a mechanism” to accept donations and raise money and he expects to have a proposal to present to the council next month. Johnson said the new group will not impact independent fund-raisers or activities of the Parks and Recreation Department, but is designed to provide accountability for town-sponsored activities. Recorder Melody Lewis said state auditors have pointed out some conflicts and problems in tracking funds from the many activities conducted by the town. Mayor Linda Hayes said Deputy Recorder Dixie Kerr has gotten very busy with coordinating activities and would welcome the assistance of a volunteer organization.
