The William James Middle School Colonels made it a sweep of the Area 1 Class A Tournament by claiming the championship 37-26 over McEwen Thursday in White Bluff. After leading by only one at halftime, the Colonels pulled away with a 9-2 run in the third period and held on to take the title in the tournament that was extended by this week’s inclement weather. The win gives both the Colonels and Lady Colonels, who won the girls’ title last weekend over Lakeview, the top seed heading into the small school sectional tournament, which starts at 11 am Monday at William James. Charlotte Middle School’s Tigers fell 35-28 to Cheatham County Thursday night in the North Area Tournament being held at Harpeth Middle School. That tournament continues through Saturday. Dickson County and Creek Wood high schools head back to the courts tonight. DCHS will host Henry County and Creek Wood hosts Harpeth in big district contests for both schools. Game time in the Cougar Den is 6:00 while the Lady Red Hawks tip off at 6:30. Both doubleheaders can be heard on the RFC Sports Network.
