Commission to dedicate Porter Road for late educator Jack Chandler Monday

The Dickson County Commission is scheduled to formally dedicate a section of Porter Road in honor of educator Jack Chandler at its meeting Monday night. The commission has already approved the memorial for the Dickson County native who died at the age of 46 in October 1998 after a battle with cancer. The Dickson High School and Austin Peay State University graduate grew up in the Porter Road area. He was a Tennessee History teacher and assistant principal for 25 years and served as the coordinator of the county’s adult education program. Chandler was named Dickson County’s Teacher of the Year in 1998. The commission will present a copy of its resolution to members of Chandler’s family and unveil the signs that will be placed on Porter Road. Commissioner Shane Chandler, a nephew of Chandler’s, invites his uncle’s former co-workers and students to attend Monday’s dedication at 7 pm in the Courthouse Annex in Charlotte.
