Cougars blow past McGavock 42-14, will face Mt. Juliet in 2nd round of playoffs

Dickson County High School blew out McGavock 42-14 in the first round of the TSSAA Class 6A football playoffs Friday night in Dickson County Stadium. The Cougars advance to this week’s second round where they will host Mt. Juliet, a 52-22 winner over Independence. Six different Cougars scored touchdowns against the Raiders as Dickson County mixed its offense up more than it has all season. Three different Cougars rushed for more than 50 yards each as Demonta Daniel, Joseph Lombardo, Kasey Fuqua and Kincaid Lewis all scored on the ground. Quarterback Luke Humphreys passed for 165 yards including scoring tosses to Otis Gerron and Trevor Daniel. It marks Dickson County’s first playoff win since 2009. McGavock finishes its season 5-6. Dickson County will host 10-1 Mt. Juliet Friday at 7 pm with the winner to meet the survivor of Brentwood-Overton in next week’s quarterfinals. In other District 10 action in the 5A playoffs, Hamilton eliminated Henry County 22-20, Northeast beat Station Camp 34-14 and top-ranked Beech crushed Kenwood 64-28.
