Dickson County High School enters the TSSAA football playoffs tonight with a visit from the McGavock Raiders. Kickoff in Dickson County Stadium is at 7 pm and tickets are $8. The Cougars are coming off their bye week and enter as the number one seed in the quadrant at 9-1 overall. McGavock had to beat Hillwood and get some help last week to finish third in District 12-AAA at 5-5 and slip into the playoffs with a 4-2 district record. The Raiders are averaging 24 points per game while giving up 25 and went 2-3 against teams that finished with a winning record. The Cougars scored 35 points per game and gave up 14 during the regular season and were 2-1 against teams that finished above .500. McGavock’s one and only win in the TSSAA playoffs came 20 years ago and the Raiders are 1-16 all time in the postseason. Their last appearance was a 56-28 loss to Mt. Juliet two years ago. Dickson County is 13-26 all time in the playoffs, with the last win coming in 2009 over Hunters Lane. The Cougars fell 56-21 to Arlington in last year’s first round. Tonight’s winner will face the survivor of Mt. Juliet and Independence in the second round next week.
