After getting their first win of the season against Harpeth, the Dickson County Cougars came up just short in a 54-53 loss to Columbia in the first game of the First Farmers and Merchants Bank Christmas Classic in Columbia Friday night. But Coach Jason Tigert’s Cougars regrouped on Saturday to crush Stewarts Creek 52-35 for win number two. In a rematch with Columbia, which beat the Cougars by 11 in the season opener, Dickson County trailed by 14 points in the final period when a rally gave Dickson County a 53-51 lead. But Columbia’s Brandon Levier sank a three-pointer from the top of the circle at the buzzer to give the Lions the win. Hunter Wolcott stepped up for the Cougars with 14 points while Otis Gerron and Tyriek Primm added 11 each. In Saturday’s match against first-year school Stewarts Creek, Dickson County exploded out of the gate for a 13-1 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back. Tyler Primm led the Cougars with 15 points and Tracy Green added 10. The Lady Cougars also split their two games in the Chick-Fil-A Christmas Classic in Mount Juliet. The host Lady Golden Bears pounded Dickson County 66-25 Friday night as the Lady Cougars fell behind by 30 points by halftime. LeaLea Carter led Dickson County with seven points. Dickson County bounced back Saturday to mount a fourth-quarter rally to beat Rossview 45-43. The Lady Cougars trailed by seven after three periods but turned up the defensive heat to outscore the Lady Eagles 13-4 in the final frame for the win. Carter exploded for 23 points while Emily Beard added 10. Both Dickson County teams will play in the Hickman County Above the Rim Christmas Invitational starting Friday. The Lady Cougars face Livingston Academy at 1 pm followed by the Cougars and Northeast at 2:30 in Centerville.
