Dickson County’s Cougars advanced to the region tournament championship and earned a berth in the state sectionals with an 81-60 win over District 10-AAA rival Henry County Tuesday night at Beech. The Cougars will play for the Region 5-AAA crown Thursday night and are guaranteed a spot in the sectional on Monday. Both teams came out cold in the first four minutes Tuesday but the Cougars would get hot and stay hot the rest of the night. Despite having three starters on the bench with foul trouble, Dickson County continued to build its lead throughout the game, leading by eight at intermission while a 21-12 third quarter would put the Cougars comfortably ahead. Dickson County’s transition game racked up 26 points off of 16 turnovers and 21 fast-break points. The Cougars’ play inside was huge as well, winning the battle of the boards 33-26 and getting 40 points in the paint to the Patriots’ 14. JeQuan Lewis was the RFC Sports MVP with a 29-point, 11-assist double-double and Donte Daniel had an exceptional night with 15 points. The Cougars advance to face Wilson Central Thursday at 7 pm at Beech and have secured a spot in Monday’s sectional round. A win Thursday would secure a home game for the sectional. Dickson County will face one of the finalists from Region 6-AAA, either Hillsboro or Brentwood, Monday night.
