CPA pulls away in second half to top Lady Cougars 51-39 in holiday tournament

Dickson County’s Lady Cougars hung tough with defending state champions Christ Presbyterian Academy for a little more than the first half, before the Lady Lions ran away after intermission for a 51-39 win in the opening game of the Above the Rim Christmas Invitational in Centerville Thursday morning. Suffering only their second loss of the season, DCHS falls into the consolation bracket where they will face the Jackson County-Waverly loser at 10 am Friday. Dickson County tied the game 29-29 on a pair of Lea Lea Carter free throws a couple minutes into the third period before the Lady Lions went on a 13-1 run to begin pulling away. CPA built its lead to as much as 17 points in the fourth before five straight points by Payton Grove closed out the scoring. CPA’s Meredith Roman led all scorers with 21 points while Faith Legate added 15. Carter, Grove and MVP Lainey Reed each had eight for DCHS. The tournament concludes Saturday.
