Creek Wood rolls over Cullman to advance to tourney’s fifth-place game Saturday

After seeing an 11-point halftime lead whittled down to three points late in the third quarter, Creek Wood’s Lady Red Hawks pounded Cullman, Alabama, 30-13 to the final horn for a 63-43 in the Winterfest Shoot-Out in Sevierville Friday morning. The Lady Bearcats led at the end of the first quarter 14-12 before Rachel Bell and Lamarra Gordon sparked Creek Wood to a 29-18 edge at intermission. Cullman sliced the lead down to three points at 33-30 in the third period before Creek Wood closed the quarter with an 8-2 run. The Lady Red Hawks applied defensive pressure for turnovers by the midpoint of the fourth had pulled away for a 19-point lead, 55-36, and cruised to the 20-point win. Bell finished with 26 and Gordon added 13, each hitting three treys. Creek Wood advances to Saturday’s fifth-place game at 11:00 am at Sevier County High School to face an opponent to be determined later Friday.
