The Creek Wood basketball squads are finishing the season on the right track. The boys have now won 4 of their last 5 as they edged Montgomery Central 53-50, while the Creek Wood Lady Red Hawks have not lost in 2012, beating Central 60-27 for their 12th straight win.
The boys trailed after each of the first three quarters, but won the fourth 17-10 and scored the last nine points of the contest to rally for the walk-off win on the road. Michael Morgan continued his hot play with 22 points, while Rollie Plunkett added 12 for the Hawks. The win puts Creek Wood at 6-5 in the district with one more game to go, Friday night at Waverly after a pair of non-district games early next week.
The Lady Hawks had a much easier time with Montgomery Central, as Creek Wood held the Lady Indians to single digits at the halftime break, 29-9. The Lady Hawk defense only allowed double figured in the third, when Creek Wood outscored Central 18-14. The Lady Hawks blitzed Central by 9 or more in each of the other three periods, as the Red, Navy, and Silver rolled on the road. Creek Wood had 9 players score in its 25th win of the year, led by Rachel Bell with 22 and Lamarra Gordon with 12. The Lady Indians had 8 girls score, but no one had more than 6 points.
