With her senior year still to play, Creek Wood High School’s Rachel Bell has verbally committed to play basketball for Vanderbilt University, according to multiple reports. While Lady Commodores Coach Melanie Balcomb and Bell have not made any public announcements, several recruiting websites are reporting the commitment and the Lady Red Hawk senior’s Twitter page prominently features the Vandy logo. Bell led Creek Wood with 20.4 points and 5.5 rebounds a game in her junior season, when the Lady Red Hawks claimed their first District 11-AA crown and first trip to the state sectional round. Creek Wood finished its season 27-5 with an undefeated district record. Bell was a 2012 Class AA Miss Basketball finalist after her sophomore season and this year passed the 1,000-point career scoring mark. Vanderbilt finished its season 21-12 with a 9-7 record in the SEC. The Lady ‘Dores made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament where they lost 77-44 to eventual national champion Connecticut. Bell reportedly was being recruited by several Division I schools across the country.
