DA Dan Alsobrooks guest speaker at NAACP’s Freedom Fund Banquet on Monday

District Attorney Dan Alsobrooks

The Dickson County Branch of the NAACP will hold its annual Freedom Fund Banquet on Monday, the celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The dinner catered by Sisters Restaurant begins at 6:30 pm in the Tennsco Community Center. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from any branch member or by calling 430-6819. The guest speaker will be District Attorney General Dan Alsobrooks, whose 23rd Judicial District includes Dickson, Cheatham, Houston, Humphreys and Stewart counties. The theme for this year’s banquet is “The Impact of the Criminal Justice System on the Minority Community.” Alsobrooks is a career prosecutor who has served as district attorney since 1990. He will conclude his third-eight year term in office in 2014 and reportedly is not seeking re-election. Alsobrooks has been active in several initiatives by the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference, including its Meth Is Death and What’s The Rush teen pregnancy campaigns. The annual Freedom Fund banquet celebrates the legacy of Dr. King and also raises funds for scholarships and other programs of the local branch. For more information, contact Allen C. Johnson at 430-6810.
