The Dickson County High School Drama Club’s production of Steel Magnolias continues in the Frances Connelly Auditorium through Sunday. The show opened Thursday night and has shows at 7 pm Friday and Saturday and 2 pm Sunday. The 1987 play by Robert Harling was made into a movie starring Sally Field, Julia Roberts and Dolly Parton in an all-star cast. The women of a small Louisiana town show their strength, love and compassion in dealing with the ups and downs of life and tragedy. The DCHS production features Leslie Crouch, Laura May Lankford, MaryBeth Yancey, Jordan Hartwell, Karson Fulton and Stacy Allison and is directed by Paul Braddy. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Elements of the play reflect Harling’s sister’s battle with diabetes. Because a part of the plot deals with the serious complications of diabetes, the Drama Club will be selling t-shirts to raise funds for Juvenile Diabetes Research. The pink t-shirts are $15 and feature a famous line from the play: “I Slapped Ousier Boudreaux,” the cranky character played in the movie by Shirley MacLaine. For tickets or more information call the DCHS box office at 446-5009 extension 25400.
