A White Bluff man charged in a shooting police describe as a landlord-tenant dispute is scheduled to stand trial Dec. 9. 35-year-old William Leroy Cathey was arraigned Monday in Dickson County Circuit Court after being indicted for aggravated assault and being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon. Cathey is charged with shooting 49-year-old William Darrell Cathey in both legs with a .22-caliber rifle at a Lincoln Road home in the Claylick community on April 1. Police said the two men are not related despite having the same first and last names and said the incident stemmed from a dispute between a landlord and tenant. In court Monday, Judge George Sexton entered not guilty pleas on Cathey’s behalf and ordered him to hire an attorney. Sexton scheduled an appearance date of Sept. 13 and the trial for Dec. 9. Cathey has a previous conviction for a felony drug offense, which prohibits him from possessing a firearm, according to the indictment. He remains free on $80,000 bond.
