After opening three years ago, Dickson Academy will be closing its doors at the end of the current school year. Headmaster Chris Harris announced on Friday’s Power Lunch program on WDKN that the private school’s board of directors informed faculty, parents and students of the decision to close last week. Dickson Academy opened for middle school grades in 2010 and was enrolling grades 6-10 for this fall as it tried to expand into high school. The board had been planning to move from its campus at Greater Things Baptist Church in Burns to Dickson First Assembly on Highway 70 West. The current Dickson Academy campus will become the home of the new Greater Things Christian Academy this fall. Harris will be the headmaster for GTCA, which is currently enrolling students for kindergarten through fifth grade as well as Pre-K Academies for 3- and 4-year-olds. Harris is the pastor at Greater Things Baptist Church, which is the former Eastside Baptist at 2612 White Bluff Road, just off Highway 96 in Burns. Dickson Academy held its annual Falcon Fest fundraiser April 20 while Greater Things Christian Academy conducted its first Spring Festival this past weekend.
