It just got more expensive to go to court in the city of Dickson. The city council unanimously approved a resolution Monday night adding a $25 privilege tax on all civil and criminal litigation that comes through the Dickson Municipal Court. The new tax will be added to the current $99.50 court costs with the funds to be specifically earmarked for security and courtroom improvements. Court Clerk Missy Sullivan told the council with the large volume and more serious nature of some of the cases being heard, the court needs to make improvements in its surveillance cameras and recording equipment, fund additional bailiffs and help with the cost of the Dickson Police Department’s van that is used to transport inmates from the jail for hearings. She said state law allows municipalities to assess the litigation tax with the money to be kept in a separate account for security improvements.
