The city of Dickson will seek a third grant to continue with phase III of the downtown revitalization project. The City Council voted Monday night to apply for another Tennessee Department of Transportation enhancement grant even as its design team continues to work on how to spend a grant for phase II. On Wednesday’s Power Lunch, Mayor Don Weiss Jr. said the city likely will apply for over $1 million again in its next application. The city got a $1.2 million grant for phase I and applied for the same amount in phase II. But TDOT asked the city to scale back its request and the state ended up awarding just over $627,000 in a second grant. Lose and Associates, the engineering firm for the project, is currently working with the downtown project committee to determine how much work can be done with the second grant and $150,000 in city matching funds. Weiss has said he hopes the project can be completed on South Main Street to Walnut Street and maybe have some funds left over to continue work north toward Rickert Avenue in phase II. The deadline for the phase III grant application is Nov. 1 and Weiss said the city will probably find out the results in late summer or early fall 2013.
