In a pair of games that both came down to the final seconds, Dickson Middle School earned a split to start off 2014 at Lipscomb Academy Thursday night. Coach Jeremiah Satterfield’s Dragons rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to defeat the Mustangs 40-38. Demontez Coleman scored all but one of Dickson’s points in the first half as Lipscomb took a 26-11 lead at intermission. The Dragons caught fire with a 19-4 run through the third period and into the fourth that tied the game at 30-30. A couple of three-pointers by Chase Edmondson gave Dickson the lead and a Mustang shot to tie the game at the buzzer was off the mark as the Dragons completed the rally. Coleman ended up with 22 and Edmondson 13 for the Dragons. The girls’ game was a see-saw battle as Dickson led by three at the half then Lipscomb led by two after the third period. The Lady Dragons stayed within striking distance but a turnover just before the buzzer thwarted a shot at a potential game-tying three-pointer as Lipscomb held on for the 37-34 win. Ryann Roberts led Dickson with 13 points. Dickson Middle hosts Lancaster Christian Academy in a Monday doubleheader.
