The Dickson County school system will begin planning its 2014-15 calendar soon and administrators are asking for the public’s input. Director of Schools Dr. Danny Weeks announced at last week’s school board meeting that parents and the community can begin submitting suggestions and comments as the calendar planning session will begin soon. A notice on the school system’s website says comments will be accepted by email through Dec. 3 at firstname.lastname@example.org. Weeks told board members he hopes to have a draft calendar ready at the Nov. 21 meeting with a possible vote on the calendar to be held in December. The director said school system administrators also got good input from the first Parent Advisory Committee meeting. Weeks announced last month the central office is planning a series of meetings with students, parents and community members to improve communication with the school system and get input on how to make it better. He said about 30 invited parents representing most schools and all grades attended the first meeting to discuss what the school system is doing right, what needs to be improved and what as parents they need to know more about. “We learned a lot about ourselves. We had several supervisors who stayed and listened and took notes. And we will be bringing that to our staff meeting, continuing to work with them. They were very revealing,” Weeks said. Coming up next month will be the system’s first Dinner with the Directors, in which invited business and community leaders will sit down with system administrators to ask questions and provide input.
