Ed Littleton stepping down as Dickson County High principal at end of school year

Ed Littleton has announced he plans to step down as principal at Dickson County High School at the end of the current school year. Littleton confirmed Tuesday that he informed the faculty and staff of the county’s largest school last Thursday that he will be returning to the classroom to finish his education career. “I am a blessed guy,” Littleton said in an interview with WDKN. “I’ve always known that I would go back to classroom before I retired,” he said. Littleton said his main reason for ending his eight-year tenure as principal of his alma mater is to spend more time with his family, including four siblings, his wife and three grown daughters, all of whom live in Dickson County. Littleton said he is leaving his options open as to where he will teach starting this fall, likely returning to a science class where he spent his first 15 years in education. “I love everything about DCHS. I love being her principal. I love the people and the kids,” Littleton said in a prepared statement he shared with his faculty last week before spring break. “I hope I have left my fingerprint on our great school. I know she has left an everlasting impression on me.” Littleton said he considered making the move last year, but decided to wait. Then just before Christmas he made up his mind and began discussing leaving with Director of Schools Dr. Danny Weeks. Heading into his 29th year in education, Littleton said he can’t say for sure where he will end up teaching, but will weigh all his options. “I don’t know what’s next,” Littleton said Tuesday. He did not say whether he has made a recommendation to Weeks for his successor. “I do not know who will follow me as principal of this wonderful school,” Littleton said in his announcement to teachers. “I do know they will inherit a group of people and an atmosphere of pride unlike any I have ever seen or experienced.”
