The FBI is leading the search for a man who robbed the Burns branch of First Federal Bank Wednesday afternoon. Investigators say it is possible that the pickup truck in which the man fled from the bank at 2310 Highway 96 might have a Kentucky license plate that includes the numbers 465. Police describe the suspect as a white male, possibly in his 50s, wearing glasses, a tan jacket and a green and white cap. In an image from a bank security camera released by police, the man appears to have his hand inside a bag or pouch but he never displayed a weapon. He entered the bank around 3 pm Wednesday and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. Local law enforcement officers would not comment on any details of the robbery while they waited for the FBI to arrive and federal agents have not released any information. The man left the bank in a green, full-size Dodge pickup truck with a camper shell and headed east on Highway 96 toward Interstate 40. Police at the bank Wednesday said witnesses did not see anyone else in the truck and the man is believed to have been alone. At this point, investigators have not been able to connect Wednesday’s robbery with the description of a suspect in any other recent robberies in the region but are hoping that somebody in Tennessee or Kentucky might recognize the suspect from the surveillance photo.
