With the start of school just two weeks away, a Fill the Bus school supply drive will be collecting donations Saturday to help students across Dickson County get off to a great start for a new year. The GFWC-Dickson County Woman’s Club, Water Street Church of Christ and Dickson County Board of Education are sponsoring the drive that will have a school bus at the Wal-Mart store on Beasley Drive 8 am-3 pm Saturday to accept donations of supplies for students of all ages. The woman’s club has teamed up with Water Street Church of Christ, which began a backpack campaign several years ago as the project of a Sunday school class and has continued to grow each year distributing hundreds of filled backpacks to students in need. Various grade-level supply lists from schools across Dickson County are available at Wal-Mart and anyone doing some back-to-school shopping Saturday is asked to pick up a few extra items and drop them off at the school bus that will be located in the parking lot. Cash donations also are accepted. At the start of school Aug. 1, students in financial need will be given vouchers that can be redeemed for backpacks filled with grade-appropriate supplies.
