Former Dickson County Trustee Jewell Richardson Bishop died Saturday at the age of 82. Mrs. Bishop served as the county’s trustee for 20 years. She was elected to her first term in 1974 and served a total of five terms, retiring in 1994. Janelle Steele Turner, who has worked in the trustee’s office 41 years and was a deputy during Mrs. Bishop’s 20 years, called her “a wonderful boss.” Turner, who began at the office part-time in 1972 when her mother Alice Steele was trustee, said Mrs. Bishop “was good to us as employees and worked side by side with us.” A Dickson County native and Burns resident, Mrs. Bishop is survived by her husband, Ben Bishop, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Bishop Russell in 1991, a twin sister and a brother. A graveside service for Mrs. Bishop will be at 2 pm Tuesday at Dickson County Memorial Gardens with Rev. Frank Walker officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Dickson Funeral Home.
