The trial of a former Maury County Sheriff’s Office deputy charged with soliciting sex from a minor has been rescheduled because the investigator is scheduled to be out of state for training next week. 39-year-old Jackie Wayne Sands of South Cedar Lane in Pulaski was one of three men arrested in December following an undercover operation by the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The March indictment charges Sands solicited sex online from what he believed was a minor between Dec. 2 and 11. Prosecutors say Sands actually was communicating with Dickson County Detective Scott Levasseur. Sands was arrested after being called in to the Maury County Sheriff’s Office where he had worked since 2009 and was fired following his arrest. Sands was scheduled to stand trial next Wednesday but Assistant District Attorney Ray Crouch said in court Monday that Levasseur is scheduled to take part in a forensic training session out of state next week and asked that the trial be postponed. Judge David Hayes agreed to reset the trial for Oct. 15. Sands remains free on $15,000 bond.
