Former educator and head of the History Department at Dickson County High School Buena Coleman Daniel died Saturday at the age of 94. Mrs. Daniel taught school in Dickson County for 37 years, beginning in a one-room school, then teaching in elementary school and Charlotte High School before becoming chair of the History Department at DCHS when the consolidated high school opened in 1972 where she taught American History. She retired in 1981. Funeral services for Mrs. Daniel will be 11 am Wednesday at Taylor Funeral Home. A Charlotte High School graduate, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Austin Peay State University and also earned a Master’s Degree. She was married to James Daniel for 67 years until his death in 2006. She is survived by a son, two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and several great-great-granchildren. A Buena Daniel Scholarship is awarded each year to Dickson County and Creek Wood high school graduates planning to study in the field of education.
