Gary Hodges wins unopposed race to become next mayor of Slayden

Gary Hodges is the new mayor-elect in Slayden after getting 56 votes in an unopposed race for the two-year term. Mary Smathers and Tammy Potts were elected to the town commission without opposition, receiving 55 and 54 votes, respectively. A third seat on the commission will be vacant after nobody ran for the position and will be filled by the new mayor and commissioners. Smathers was appointed to finish the term of Roger Harrison when he became mayor last year. Harrison and incumbent commissioners Deborah Smith and Jerry Trotter did not seek re-election.
