A Dickson man was indicted last week for breaking into and setting fire to the New Hope Baptist Church last May. 35-year-old Carlos D. Carr of Miller Street is charged with arson, burglary and theft for the May 16 burglary and fire that damaged the kitchen and dining area of the century-old church at 910 Highway 47 East. Investigators say Carr smashed a glass rear door of the church and went through its offices, stealing about $5 from a cash box before setting the fire. He was arrested in October and was being held on $15,000 bond. The church was able to resume holding services within days of the fire. The grand jury also indicted Carr for aggravated assault and theft for allegedly attacking a woman with a razor knife and stealing her purse on Sept. 1. He is scheduled to be arraigned in January in Dickson County Circuit Court.
