Dickson County will see its fourth private school open this fall as Greater Things Christian Academy is now enrolling for elementary school grades. Greater Things will serve students in Kindergarten through fifth grade and provide pre-K programs for three and four year olds. It will be located at Greater Things Baptist Church on White Bluff Road in Burns, where Dickson Academy currently operates. After opening in 2010, Dickson Academy is now enrolling for grades 6-12 and will be relocating this fall to Dickson First Assembly Church on Highway 70 West in Dickson. United Christian Academy is Dickson County’s oldest private school having been open for 20 years at Free Will Baptist Church on Highway 46 and serving grades K-12 while the Dickson Adventist School at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Highway 46 serves grades K-8. According to its website, Greater Things Christian Academy will teach every subject from a Christian perspective to help students develop a biblical worldview. It will be a member of and seeking accreditation from the Association of Christian Schools, International. GCTA will follow the Dickson County school system calendar. Its dress code will be polo-style shirts with jeans or khaki shorts, skirts and pants. The school will not provide lunches except for offering pizza on Fridays and parents must provide transportation to and from school. Before- and after-school care programs will be provided. In its mission statement, Greater Things says it will provide “a biblically integrated, experiential education that is distinctively Christian, academically excellent and service and mission oriented.” The new school will host a Spring Festival 10 am-3 pm April 27. Dickson Academy will host its annual FalconFest on Saturday, April 20, with volleyball and cornhole tournaments, barbecue, music and other activities and an open house 6-8 pm April 29.
