Payton Grove’s two-run homer in the second inning proved to be the winning runs as Dickson County’s Lady Cougars topped future district rival Franklin 8-3 Monday night at DCHS. Grove finished 3-5 with a single, double and homerun, three RBI and two runs scored as the Lady Cougars pounded out 15 hits against the Lady Rebels. Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the second, Grove parked one out of left center for the 4-1 advantage. Dickson County added four more insurance runs in the fourth to pull away 8-1 before Franklin rallied with two runs in the sixth. Montana Harris got the win, scattering eight hits while striking out three and giving up two walks. On a big night for offense, Makray Odom, Brooklin Lee and Selena Crafton all had three hits apiece as the Lady Cougars improved to 11-6. The Lady Cougars and Lady Rebels will become District 11 opponents next year under the TSSAA realignment. Dickson County travels to Clarksville today for softball at 5:30 and baseball at 6:30 while Cougar soccer hosts Northeast at 6:00. Creek Wood’s baseball team hosts Cheatham County in a doubleheader at 4:30.
