Mayor Linda Hayes and two new members of the White Bluff Town Council will be sworn in tonight. Hayes was re-elected to a four-year term last week, defeating former Mayor Vance Smith. Stephanie Murrell and Dan Clark will take their seats as the newest members of the five-member White Bluff Town Council. Murrell and Clark topped a field of six candidates for the two seats left open when Dale Whitfield and Allen Johnson chose not to seek re-election. They will join Oscar Martin, Todd Hamilton and Lil Cauthen, whose terms on the council expire in 2014. Last week’s election marked White Bluff’s first since changing the election cycle to reduce costs. The change extended the terms by 18 months as the town’s election will now be held in conjunction with the November federal and state election every two years. Hayes also is expected to re-appoint Melody Lewis as town recorder and the Dickson firm of Reynolds, Potter, Ragan and Vandivort as town attorneys. The White Bluff Town Council meets at 7 pm in Town Hall.
