A preliminary hearing for the man accused of the New Year’s night shooting in an alleged drug deal has been rescheduled to March 7. Justin Keith Treece of Enville, Tenn., remains in the Dickson County Jail on $1.5 million bond charged with felony murder and attempted first-degree murder. Treece’s attorney, Carthel Smith Jr. of Lexington, agreed Thursday to waive the requirement that a preliminary hearing be held within 10 days of an arrest and Judge Reese Holley rescheduled the hearing for March 7. Investigators say they are working with authorities in McNairy and Hardin counties to gather information on the case. Treece is charged with killing 29-year-old Matthew Draper and wounding 22-year-old Cody Jackson in what investigators have described as a “drug deal gone bad” in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express in Dickson shortly after 11:00 New Year’s night. An investigator said he has interviewed Treece, but would not elaborate on any statements he made pending the preliminary hearing.
