The Dickson County Help Center handed out over 250 turkeys and holiday meal baskets this week to help area families in need. But Director Renee Boehm says several families were turned away Tuesday afternoon when the center ran out of turkeys. Boehm said the center could still use about 20 partially or fully thawed or fresh turkey donations to assist those who were turned away as well as any last-minute requests that come in today. Boehm said 261 turkeys and baskets with traditional fixings were handed out Monday and Tuesday, eclipsing the total of 150 distributed last year. But after all the donated and purchased turkeys and hams were handed out, there were still more people seeking assistance from the center’s food bank. Anyone interested in assisting with last-minute donations should contact the help center at 441-0076. Today is the final day holiday meal assistance will be offered for Thanksgiving.
