In a night of big plays and unstoppable offenses, Houston High School outlasted Dickson County 42-35 Friday night, leaving the Cougars winless at 0-4. The seesaw battle saw the Mustangs take a 14-0 lead in the first period, then Dickson County battled back to tie the game 14-14 at intermission. The Cougars took their only lead of the night early in the third quarter on a Jacob Williams field goal to make it 17-14. The game headed into the final quarter tied 28-28 and was knotted at 35-35 before Houston got the game-winning score with 57 seconds left on the clock. Mustang quarterback Jared Schmidt threw for two scores and ran for two more while Malik Elion rushed for 328 yards and two scores. Cougar quarterback Will Harmon passed for 203 yards and three touchdowns while Otin Gerron ran for 213 yards and a score. Dickson County heads back into the District 11-AAA battles this week with a trip to Brentwood.
