Inspired Alcoa team upsets Lady Red Hawks in Winterfest Shoot-Out 71-50

Creek Wood’s Lady Red Hawks dropped their second decision of the season Thursday night with a 71-50 loss to an inspired Alcoa team in the opening round of the Winterfest Shoot-Out in Sevierville. The Lady Tornado players had the names of the 20 children killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting last week written on their arms for the tourney game. Alcoa had struggled with a 3-5 start to its season while Creek Wood rolled into the tournament with an 11-1 record and a top-ten Midstate ranking. The Lady Red Hawks got 19 points from Rachel Bell and 18 from Lamarra Gordon while Katie Stubblefield led Alcoa with 23. The loss knocks Creek Wood into the losers’ bracket of the tournament where they will face Cullman, Alabama, at 8:00 this morning. Pregame coverage on the RFC Sports Network starts at 7:45 from Sevier County High School. After hosting Waverly tonight at 6:00 on the RFC Sports Network, Dickson County High School’s Cougars and Lady Cougars open holiday tournament action Thursday in Panama City, Florida, and Centerville, respectively.
