Dickson County High School rising sophomore Chassity “LeaLea” Carter has been selected to be part of the USA Women’s U16 National Team that will compete in Cancun, Mexico, next month. From hundreds of players who applied, 127 were invited to the trials at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado and a roster of 12 was selected to represent the United States. After a standout freshmen year for the Lady Cougars, Carter will join players from Maryland, Louisiana, California, Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Georgia and Wisconsin on the national team. The 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Women will be June 19-23 in Cancun with teams from the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica competing for the title. Carter and the US team open pool play June 19 against Brazil, followed by Argentina on June 20 and Costa Rica on June 21. The semifinals will be June 22 and the finals June 23. Carter led Dickson County to a 25-4 record, a District 10 championship and a berth in the region semifinals. Her AAU team recently won the Tennessee 10th grade Division I championship.
