Despite a steady rain Friday night, Dickson County’s Lady Cougars grabbed an 11-1 win over Overton and earned a berth in this week’s TSSAA Spring Fling in Murfreesboro. The 32-13 Lady Cougars will face 33-11 Riverdale at 10 am Wednesday at the Starplex in Murfreesboro to begin the quest for their second state title. The loser plays the loser of Munford and Seymour in the elimination bracket at 4 pm while the winners battle in the quarterfinals at 6 pm Wednesday. After the start of Friday’s sectional was delayed due to rain, Overton struck first but Dickson County answered with 11 unanswered runs to end the game after five innings on the 10-run mercy rule. Brooklin Lee struck out 11 Lady Bobcats for the win. Down to its last out, Riverdale scored four runs with two outs in the seventh inning to beat Coffee County 4-1 in the sectional and advance to the state tournament.
