Lady Dragons pound West Creek 46-7 to move into semifinals of area tourney

Dickson Middle School’s Lady Dragons left little doubt why they are the number one seed in the Class AAA Area 1 Tournament opener Thursday at New Providence Middle School. Dickson throttled West Creek 46-7 to advance to Tuesday’s semifinals. The Lady Dragons dominated from the opening tip, jumping out to a 35-0 lead at halftime despite going to the bench in the second period. The starters only played a couple of minutes after intermission as Dickson coasted to the 39-point win. In their first two meetings, Dickson topped the Lady Coyotes by 46 and 43 points. Emily Beard led Dickson with 13 points, all in the first half, while Kailey Rosenbaum came off the bench to contribute 10. The Lady Dragons move on to face the New Providence-Kenwood winner at 4:45 Tuesday. Dickson beat both those teams by at least 35 points twice each in the regular season. Dickson’s Dragons open tournament action Monday at 6 pm against Northeast. The two teams split their regular-season series, each winning at home. The William James Colonels and Charlotte Tigers both advanced in their state sectional tournaments with wins Thursday. The Colonels earned a berth in the Class A State Sectional championship by beating Celina 49-39. The Tigers advance to the Class AA State Sectional semifinals with a 32-26 win over E.O. Coffman.
