Lady Red Hawks escape Lewis County 48-45 to earn berth in region title game

The Region 6-AA semifinal game between Creek Wood and Lewis County came down to the final seconds before the Lady Red Hawks escaped with a 48-45 win in Charlotte Monday night. The victory advances Creek Wood to Wednesday night’s region championship game against Page and both the Lady Red Hawks and Lady Patriots earn a spot in the state sectionals on Saturday. Lewis County took an early lead Monday night before Rachel Bell led the Lady Red Hawks back in front, but a pair of free throws in the closing seconds gave the Lady Panthers a 21-20 edge at halftime. District 11 MVP Bell scored 12 points in the third period to lead Creek Wood to a three-point advantage heading into the final quarter. Trailing by two in the final seconds, Lewis County forced a three-pointer for the win but it clanked off the rim and Lamarra Gordon ended up getting fouled. She hit one of two free throws to set the final 48-45 score after a desperation three-quarter shot at the buzzer fell short and ended Lewis County’s season. Bell led all scorers with 24 points and Gordon finished with 13. Creek Wood, 27-3, and 27-4 Page, which beat Cheatham County 66-45 Monday, will meet at 7 pm Wednesday at Creek Wood for the region title. The winner is home for Saturday’s sectional while the loser hits the road.
