A last-inning rally fell short as the Creek Wood Lady Red Hawks dropped their softball season opener 2-1 at Stewart County Tuesday night. Brett Jackson led off the seventh inning with a solo home run after Lady Red Hawk starter Ashley Gibbs had given up two runs before being relieved by Jackson. But Creek Wood was unable to mount any more offense and fell to the Lady Rebels. After being no-hit by Northeast in Monday’s opener, the Creek Wood Red Hawks found their offense at Northwest Tuesday, but also came up just short as the Vikings pulled off an 11-10 victory with a run in the bottom of the last inning. Creek Wood had battled back from an 8-0 deficit after two innings to tie the game.. Dickson County’s Cougars opened their 2013 baseball campaign with a tough 4-3 win in a game that was moved to Rossview because of wet conditions on the DCHS field. Hunter Hamilton got the win on the mound. After going through the 2012 season with an undefeated district record, the Cougar soccer squad saw that streak end with a 1-1 tie against Rossview Tuesday. Union University signee Justin Hawkins picked up the lone goal for Dickson County. New Creek Wood soccer coach Jared Peeler started his first season with a 3-1 win over East Robertson. Ian Spence scored twice and Tyler Turpin got a goal. Tonight, the Dickson County Lady Cougars try to get their softball season going with a pair of games in the Commando Classic at Hendersonville that were rescheduled from Monday. The Lady Cougars face Wilson Central at 5:30 with coverage on the RFC Sports Network starting at 5:15 and a second game set for 7 pm.
