After a shaky start, Dickson County’s Brooklin Lee settled down to pitch a three-hit 3-1 victory over Riverdale in the TSSAA Class AAA softball tournament in Murfreesboro Wednesday morning. The Lady Cougars advance to face the Seymour-Munford winner at 6 pm today. Lee allowed the first three Lady Warriors to reach base on a walk, bunt single and flare over the infield to load the bases with no outs. Riverdale got a gun on a fielder’s choice at second to take an early lead. But then the Lady Cougar freshman took control. Lee got her first of seven strikeouts and a grounder to end the inning, then retired 17 of the next 19 batters she faced through the end of the game. After stranding six runners through the first four innings, Dickson County took over the lead in the fifth. Payton Grove smacked a double off the fence then Rachel Rife beat out an infield single. Makray Odom tied the game with an RBI sacrifice back to the pitcher that scored pinch runner Lainey Reed then Rife came in when the throw to third got away for a 2-1 lead. Lee helped her own cause two batters later with a solo homer to center for the final 3-1 margin. The Lady Cougars tallied seven hits and drew two walks while not a single batter struck out. After giving up two hits and a walk in the first inning, Lee walked one in the third but erased her on a double play then gave up a one-out double in the seventh before a fly ball and strikeout secured the win.
