Former Cougar JeQuan Lewis scored only two points despite getting his most playing time yet as the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams were upset by Florida State 85-67 in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Thursday night. Tenth-ranked VCU suffered its first loss of the season and will face Long Beach State tonight in the consolation bracket. In 21 minutes of playing time, freshman Lewis hit one of two field goal attempts, missing his only three-point shot of the night. He grabbed two rebounds, dished out two assists and had three steals. Despite forcing the Seminoles into 25 turnovers, VCU couldn’t convert into points as the Rams shot only 29 percent from the floor. An 11-0 run to open the second half helped Florida State build a lead of 30 points and hold on for the 18-point win in San Juan. VCU faces Long Beach State at 6:30 tonight on ESPNU after the 49ers lost to 14th-ranked Michigan 85-61. The Wolverines and Seminoles meet in the semifinals at 4 pm on ESPN2.
