The 108th Tennessee General Assembly convenes today and 78th District Representative Mary Littleton of Dickson officially begins her first term in office. The Republican won the general election in November over Democrat Linda Hayes in the new district that includes the eastern half of Dickson County and all of Cheatham County. Democrat David Shepard of Dickson begins his 7th term in office representing the 69thDistrict, which is now the western half of Dickson County, all of Hickman
County and a portion of Maury County. Sen Jim Summerville of Dickson is halfway through his first four-year term in the 25th District. Both houses of the legislature will open their sessions at noon today with the winners of November’s election being sworn in and chamber leadership being elected as one of the first items of business. The GOP holds a super majority with over a two-thirds majority in both houses for the first time since Reconstruction.
