Rain is threatening to postpone tonight’s graduation ceremony at Dickson County High School as well as this afternoon’s softball sectional game between Dickson County and Overton. While no official announcements have been made, the forecast calls for a chance of rain continuing into Sunday. Dickson County High School is scheduled to hold its 41st commencement exercise at 7:30 tonight in Dickson County Stadium. In a statement Friday morning, Principal Ed Littleton said the school will do everything possible to hold the ceremony as scheduled. “It is our intention to finish the commencement ceremony tonight, even if we have to postpone the start until we get a break in the weather,” Littleton said in an email to WDKN. “While rain is inconvenient, it will not stop us from graduation if we can help it. Be prepared to stay as long as it takes.” Littleton said the seniors will line up in the gymnasium until the decision is made to start down the hill to the stadium. However, Littleton said storms that include lightning will postpone the ceremony and even stop it once it has started. “I will not put our students in harm’s way,” he said. The school has alternate graduation times for 7:30 pm Saturday and 2 pm Sunday. But once the ceremony begins, if it is forced to stop due to weather, it will be considered complete and will not be rescheduled, Littleton said. The softball sectional game was scheduled for 4:30 pm at DCHS to try to allow senior Lady Cougars to be able to participate in graduation. Dickson County and Overton are playing for a berth in the TSSAA Spring Fling, which opens Monday in Murfreesboro.
